I remembered this photo was taken when I had the language barrier with my students. My friends said I was delighted because I had a big smile, but actually, this was my embarrassing smile. When I had a small discussion with this group, I could not understand what they said, and I had tried 3-4 times already. I was helpless at that moment.
True, for this whole trip, the language barrier was my biggest challenge. Every time I would like to communicate with my students during class, lunch time, or reading time, etc. I felt very difficult to talk deeper with them without the interpreters. However, I thought some body language and simple language could help us enhance our bonding with students. For examples, hug, “I love you”, “I miss you”.
